NEW OF THE DAY........."U.S. immigration deports 63 Nigerians"

ANOTHER 63 Nigerians were yesterday deported by the immigration agency of the United States of America (USA) for being in possession of illegal firearms and residing in the country illegally.

The deportees arrived aboard a B737 aircraft with registration number N739mi at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos at 11:15 am.

The deportees, who arrived in the country from Miami, USA, comprised of seven females and 56 males who wore sordid look while they were handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service officers.

Some of them who gave their names as Kafilat Ogunrinde, Adewunmi, Olufemi, Akin and Alex were said to have been arrested with guns by the U.S. police.

The Guardian learnt that most of the deportees had been residing in the U.S. for between two and 10 years. Information showed that 80 per cent of them were illegal immigrants without valid documents.

One of the deportees, who does not want his name in print, decried his arrest, alleging that he was picked up on his way to a super market. He, however, confessed that his documents to permit him to reside in the country had expired, adding that he lost his job to the global economic meltdown about three months ago.

He said he went to the U.S. in 2004 when he could not secure a decent job in Nigeria. The deportee did not rule out returning to the U.S. after perfecting his papers.

About a month ago, 23 Nigerians were deported from Spain for purportedly staying in the country illegally, while Ireland and Spain in June also deported 155 Nigerians, including infants from their countries.

The deportees from Ireland, totalling 86, were made up of 45 men, 28 women and three infants, while those from Spain totalled 69, but their breakdown was unclear. A source, however, said the deportees from Spain included a Nigerian who was arrested for drug related offences.

No fewer than 1,063 Nigerians have been deported from various countries in the last six months. Some people have attributed the development to the global economic meltdown ravaging most developed countries.

2FACE TOP MAMA'09 NOMINATION

He seems to have arrived and what better way is there to stamp a decade of musicianship. 2Face may have had droves of scandal characterize his successful music career but all those tales may soon be forgotten in the wake of his new accolades- if he pulls this through too.

Only last month at the Soundcity Music Video Awards, 2Face Idibia shone, picking up two awards for his NBC banned video, Enter the place. Now he has four nominations at the October holding MAMA event in Nairobi, Kenya.
This year’s MAMA has classified acts into 10 categories, comprising five nominees in each.

•Idibia winner of the maiden MTV African Awards
Nigeria records highest entries with 15 slots and nominations in all but one of the categories. 2Face leads the pack of six Nigerian nominees with four (4) nominations in categories including ‘Best Male’, ‘Artist of the Year’ and ‘Video of the year’ for ‘Enter the Place’. Next on the list is D’banj who shares three nominations with HHP (SA) and Nameless (Kenya).

Darey Art Alade might definitely have to fast and pray if he’s to win any trophy at the awards since his only nomination is in the same category with Single ladies rocker, Beyonce or Sasha Fierce- whichever you prefer, and Akon in the ‘Best R N B’.

Kel gives solace to other Nigerian female acts as the only Nigerian female act who makes the list, lending voice in the ‘Best Female Act’ while Nigeria’s latest rap sensation, MI gives Nigeria Hip Hop some recognition in the ‘Best Hip Hop’ category even as he battles Bigiano and three others in the ‘Best New act’ category.

Mo Hit All Stars is up against P-Square in the ‘Best Group’ category while the pop twins battle D’banj, Nameless (Kenya), Blu3 (Uganda) and Samini (Ghana) in the ‘Best Performer’ category.

Timaya vs Empress Njamah: Timaya attacks Empress Njamah in church

BAYELSA State- born militant singer, Timaya, had a rough  taste of love turned sour portion when he was manhandled, handcuffed and subsequently detained by the Festac police for conducting himself in a manner likely to breach public peace.
The show of shame ,which happened last Sunday at an Alakija Lagos-based church, Praise Resurrection Ministries aka Jehovah Sharp Sharp church, disrupted the service, leaving several members of the house of God bruised.
In what an eye witness account described as a reflection of the lyrics of one of his hit songs, Timaya in company of some of his goons, arrived the Church without notice and sauntered into the Thanksgiving service being held in honour of a newly wedded couple named Bridget and Nerho
On arrival, he was allegedly given a seat by one of the church ushers. But he insisted he wanted a place in the front row where (according to our source) he would be positioned to listen to the Pastor and his sermon.
But when the usher stood his ground, he calmly sat without betraying any emotion of what he planned to do.
On his entry, his ex lover, Empress Njamah who was said to have become alarmed quickly stood up from where she sat and made her way to the front row area where some elders of the Church sat.
According to our source, she had expressed her fear to one of the ushers about the danger of  Timaya coming to Church saying she was certain he was there to make trouble.
And true to her prediction, Timaya who had seen her move decided it was time to make his own move. It was at this point that he drew the attention of one the ushers insisting he also wanted a place at the front area. But his move was thwarted by the usher who at this point sensed there was something wrong.
As the usher stood his ground, Timaya lost control and began to shout at the top of his voice and to the chagrin of the worshippers, “I want to retrieve the key of my car which Empress took away from my house.”
When the usher insisted he waited until Church service was over, he became unruly and uncontrollable. At a point he was said to have lifted one of the plastic chairs in the Church and tried to attack Empress. This move was however contained by some of the male church worshipers.
“As the struggle and show of shame continued, Timaya, who at this point was shouting at the top of his voice, was rough handled and bundled out of the Church arena.
As the burly musician resisted every attempt to reason with the Church officials, a concerned naval top brass who also worships at the Church, invited his men from the nearby naval barracks and Timaya was subsequently handcuffed and handed over to men of the Festac Police formation. He was detained briefly and later released after pledging to be of good behaviour and on self recognition.
But in a new twist  to the church fracas, some explained to this writer that there is more to the story than what the couple exhibited in church.
“The true story, according to our source is that Empress had drawn the anger of the musician on the ground of unfaithfulness.
“Timaya heard Empress was getting married to another man in the said Church and that’s why he stormed the church to disrupt the phantom wedding. Unknown to Timaya, the much talked about wedding took place on Saturday and it was between one of Empress best friends and her long-standing boyfriend.
“What you saw happen in church was a clear exhibition of a man in love and jealous of losing his loved one. I think what both lovers should do is to involve family members who would help them thrash all their differences, ”our source opined.
Empress, who confirmed the story to one of our reporters, however maintained a sealed lip.
The police, she told us, had advised that she  says nothing to the press. We could not however reach Timaya as his phone was switched off.
Police spokes man, Mr. Frank Mba, a Police Superintendent who confirmed our story said, “Following the incidence, Timaya has written a petition to us, saying that Empress amongst other allegations, had not only squandered an undisclosed sum of his money given to her to hold in trust, she had also gone beyond his back to remove the said vehicle from his house and without his permission.

Nollywood rocks Canada

It is no longer news that Nollywood is being rated as second largest film industry in the whole world. But what is currently news is the fact that the industry is steadily on course to capture the world.

The latest effort in this regard is the forthcoming Nollywood North America Film Festival slated for next month in Munich, Canada. The festival, from all indications, is not only a celebration of Nigerian movies in a distant land but a display of the beauty, culture, and the creative ingenuity of Nigerian film makers.

Ahead of the festival which holds between this September 24 and 27 under the theme, “Bridging the Gap”, various stakeholders of the industry, including film makers, make-up artists, costumiers and Nollywood stars alike are expected to explore the opportunity provided by the festival to showcase the best of Nollywood to the world.

Ace film maker and director, Mr. Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, representing the organisers at a press parley held early in the week, informed that the festival, heavily backed by the Nigerian High Commission in Canada, is conceived as a direct response to the idea of popularising Nollywood movies, especially in North American countries. Imasuen, whose ideas gave birth to the festival, said it would further reposition and help put Nollywood on the global map of leading film making nations.

According to him, the festival became necessary following the successful premiere of the documentary on Nigeria called “Nollywood Babylon’ made by some Canadian film makers, which allowed Nollywood to present itself without any distortion to the world.

“The festival is connected with the documentary called ‘Nollywood Babylon’ made by some Canadian film makers, where I happened to be the leading figure concerning the phenomenon that is called Nollywood,” the Edo born internationally acclaimed film maker recounted. Continuing, he said, “ When the Canadian film makers arrived the country, I took them to Abuja where the documentary was recorded and presented very well.

And after the documentary, I was invited to Canada for its world premiere, attended by the second in command of the Nigerian High Commission in Canada, Ms. Ifeoma Chinwuba. After the premiere, I took the floor to debunk some of the mis-presentations about Nigeria as contained in the documentary .

That was what led to the CNN’s Screen Room where I spoke extensively about the huge potentials inherent in Nollywood and what makes the second largest film producing nation globally very unique.” ‘Thereafter, the Nigerian ambassador to Canada, Professor Baba, who was impressed by the outing, later invited me for a talk in his office. After the talk, he endorsed the Nollywood North American Film Festival.

That’s how the idea of the festival came about,” Imasuen explained. However, the exponent of Edo language movie, recently honoured by City People Magazine at his native Benin, Edo State, for his immense contributions to the nation’s home video scene, noted that aside showcasing the best of Nollywood, the theme of the festival is borne out of the need to get Nigerian movies into the consciousness of the movie bluffs in North America, where according to him, the local movies are heavily pirated.

The historic event, according to the well-travelled film director, who just returned from a global tour/premiere of Ebuwa, his latest language film, in the US, UK and Canada, will be featuring amongst other things, screening of over 10 Nollywood movies, in addition to parading about eight top rated Nollywood stars.

Besides, there will be a gala night, where awards and recognitions will be given to deserving individuals and institutions for the promotion of Nollywood. Imasuen, with over 200 films to his credit, advocated the need for film makers to use their art to promote language movies.

He posited that the Ebuwa tour, which spanned over three months, was very successful and has further propagated the ideals of language movies to the rest of the world. Speaking in the same vein, Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board(NFVCB), Mr. Emeka Mba, represented at the event by Mr. Cornel A. Agim, Head, Community and State liaison, pledged to ensure that the festival records a huge success.

The board is mandated by the Nigerian High Commission in Canada to select the films that will be screened during the festival. On her own, Mrs. Franca Aernan, renowned actress who represented the embassy, called on both the public and private sectors to proudly support this festival.

Meanwhile, as a film maker with bias for topical and contemporary stories and issues, Imasuen will soon be hitting locations for a movie on Breast Cancer, in collaboration with the publishers of Genevieve magazine. The big budget project, expected to be completed this year, he said, would be used as an awareness/advocacy tool to further help fight the scourge of the disease that is ravaging Nigerian women.

We will not honour vulgar songs-----Nigeria Music Video Awards

This year’s Nigerian Music Video Awards is taking a turn from the norm as this year’s award is set to promote decency and sanity in Nigerian music videos. Organizers of the Award have chosen the theme:” Music Edifies” for this year’s music awards.

The theme was chosen so as to help check the celebration of obscenity, fraud and other such vices in Nigerian songs and videos ‘as musicians are role models who have a large percent of fan base among the children.’

To this effect, the award will not feature videos that have been banned by the Nigerian Broadcast Commission. “All videos with corrupt themes will be discountenanced, a consistent policy we held from the onset. With regard to all videos banned by the Nigerian Broadcast Commission (NBC) we have no intentions of going contrary”.

This year’s video award is set to be better than the last year’s edition, though controversies will also trail the Award, as cynics will always see something wrong even in Eden. Patrick Doyle, one of the organizers said, “There will always be controversy but the panel of judges is formidable”

He stated further that the judges are drawn from the best producers and veterans. This year’s award which will feature 24 categories such as Best Video, Best Fuji, Best Gospel, Best Editor, Most popular Nigerian Music Video in Video and Best new Director amongst other categories will hold on November 1 at the Eko Hotel and Suite.

MY MARRIAGE HAS CRASHED............MONALISA ADMITS

Star actress, Monalisa Chinda, on Friday finally admitted that her marriage to Segun Dejo-Richards had broken down irretrievably.
She disclosed this through a statement by her lawyer, Mr Festus Keyamo, confirming weeks of speculations and inquiries about the marriage contracted about five years ago.

In the statement, the mother of one says the marriage broke down because of incompatibility and irreconcilable differences.
“Like millions of other marriages, my marriage had its own strains and stress. I loved and adored my husband but there were many areas of incompatibility between us.

These instances of incompatibility led us to disagree strongly on many occasions. At the end, it appeared we could not manage the situation, which led to the marriage breaking down irretrievably.’’
The actress, who is one of the 13 Glo Ambassadors recently selected by the telecommunication giants, said she has instructed her counsel, Festus Keyamo, to file for divorce.

But despite the break-up, she said she will continue to respect her husband. In the formal statement, she promised to take care of her daughter and not to rehash the sordid details of the failed marriage in the media.
“As a proper African woman, I will continue to respect my husband and will not raise my voice against him, since he is the father of my beautiful daughter. I will not exchange words with him in the media. I wish him well in all his endeavours and I hope he wishes me well too,” she said.

In the statement, which read in part like a sack letter, she said she will not offer any further comments as she would like to concentrate on her career and carry on in her responsibility as a Glo ambassador.
The break up is coming as a surprise as Monalisa on several occasions vowed that nothing could separate her from her husband. She was once quoted to have said at the christening of their daughter, Tamar Kirejesu, that if she were to reincarnate she would still marry Dejo again.

Sometime s last year, a soft-sell magazine reported that Monalisa had relocated to her uncle’s house in FESTAC. She promptly denied it, saying she only went there because of its proximity to her film location then. She described those peddling the rumour as enemies of progress.
When contacted on phone, her husband said he was shocked that his wife took such an action.
“What happened between us does not call for divorce. She has simply succumbed to bad advisers from her family and friends. I have made efforts to talk to her but she is not picking my calls,” he said.
Sunday Sun learnt that Monalisa packed out of her matrimonial home about a month ago for reasons she is not willing to divulge yet.

IBRU IN EFCC NET

Former managing director of Oceanic Bank Plc, Mrs. Cecilia Ibru, on Wednesday finally surrendered herself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Ibru arrived the Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos office of the anti-graft agency at about 2:30 p.m. in a convoy of cars including Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) marked LAGOS HR 683 EKY and LAGOS FV 768 EKY.

Looking resplendent in a black suit, she was accompanied by her lawyer, Niyi Akintola (SAN) and medical doctor among others.
As soon as she alighted from her SUV in the expansive EFCC premises, which was a beehive of activities, operatives of the commission immediately led Ibru upstairs where she was interrogated in the presence of the Chairman, Mrs. Farida Waziri.

The ex-chief executive officer of Oceanic Bank was later taken to the EFCC office annex located at Okotie-Eboh Street in Ikoyi for further interrogation at about 3:50 p.m.
When she came down from where she was quizzed, she looked weak and was supported by a white man and a lady. The encounter was apparently traumatic for Mrs. Ibru who sources said sobbed intermittently while being grilled by the EFCC operatives.

In a brief exchange with newsmen, Chief Akintola, said her client came from hospital bed to surrender herself to the EFCC.
“As you can see, she came from her hospital bed and she came with her doctor.”
He said nobody apart from the court of law has any right to declare anybody wanted or to order for the detention of any citizen. “The court order has been served on the EFCC and the court bailiff is here,” Akintola said.

The EFCC spokesman, Mr. Femi Babafemi confirmed Ibru’s submission to the agency for prosecution. He stated that she might be charged to court soon.
Babafemi further said five teams of EFCC operatives were sent out to debtors who defaulted in paying back huge sums owed the five troubled banks. Each of the team, he said, was given a target to meet with 10 billionaire debtors of Union Bank, Finbank, Afribank, Intercontinental Bank and Oceanic Bank. He said no fewer than 50 debtors were expected in the EFCC office by the close of work on Wednesday.
Daily Sun gathered as at press time that no fewer than 24 of the defaulters had been arrested and brought into custody.

According to sources, some of the arrested persons made frantic efforts to pay their debts.
Although it was impossible to ascertain the total amount paid by the defaulters on Wednesday, but a source said at least N600 million was raked into Union Bank coffers alone.

ABOUT LONDON BASED NAIJA ARTISTE, AJIBOLA WHO IS FRAUDULENT

Despite the effort of the amiable Minister for Information, Dr. Mrs. Dora Akunyili to rebrand Nigeria and change the mind of the global audience who have come to see Nigeria as one of the corrupt and fraudulent nations, one of the big boys who is using music to cover up their illegal deal in London popularly called Ajibola does not in anyway share the Rebrand Nigeria project at all as his fraudulent instinct increases by the second.

Ajibola recently released an album titled Ajibola in Nigeria, though; those who have listened to the album confirmed that it's nothing to write home about. When he noticed that the album is not getting the attention he craved for, he was said to have returned back to London where he's making mega-bucks in the credit cards business. Well, I just hope the exposure he has garnered over the years will change his orientation. May God help him

How I wish I was not that popular - Jim Iyke

Jim Iyke, actor, producer, musician, businessman and entertainer per excellence, in this chat with TOPE OLUKOLE recently, said his coming into music was purely a business decision. I’m Jim Iyke an actor, producer, business man and a traveler, now a musician, who just came up with an album entitled Who am I that also featured artiste like Tu face. According to him, “asking one to describe oneself is a bit difficult but, I think I’m an introvert, I enjoy my own company, especially when I’m in my house and I play with my little toys. I like to keep well informed about any character I play and I read as well. I’m a sportsman; I’ve got a black belt in taekwondo and I used to run a black belt college.” He also agreed that he has been involved in all sorts of controversies, saying “but people who know me, know me contrary to what other people might think.” Jim has been in the movie industry for about eight years and he loves it. “I loved it from the beginning, the publicity and all. I’ve reached a point where I’m becoming too popular in Africa. Believe me, there are times I wish I was not that popular. I went to Portugal thinking that nobody knew me. But when I went cycling shirtless, I didn’t make it half way down the streets when some Ghanaian guys called my name and the whole street exploded, it was crazy.” I have fans all over the world that are crazy about me I’m only trying to keep at least 20% of my life to myself and 80% to the public. ” I’ve seen people in the movie industry who are really talented and very reserved. But I become a different person in front of the cameras and immediately I’m off, I am totally reserved,”he said Iyke’s career exploded three years ago when he starred in about 48 movies, the highest in Nollywood then. He was in commercials; he was everywhere and it got to a point; he had to take a compulsory rest to avoid exhaustion. Speaking about the measure that was enforced in the Nollywood industry some time ago, Iyke stated that some were able to survive, while some did not. “I’m not blaming the marketers for whatever happened in the industry.”

48hrs to EFCC deadline

Billionaires sell assets
•Lagos hotel auctioned to pay N14bn loan
•Oceanic recovers N4.5bn, Union N6bn, Afribank N3bn
•EFCC arrests 2 more CEOs

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday hauled in two more big fishes from the troubled waters of the five dirty banks. John Maha, the Managing Director of Afribank Securities was lured out of hiding while Niyi Opeodu, Managing Director of Union Capital Markets was arrested from his Lekki residence, in Lagos.

This is just as one of the flamboyant billionaires in the country (names withheld) has sold his hotel at a give-away price to ensure that he was not caught napping at the end of the day.
Our source disclosed that the billionaire owes one of the banks over N14 billion, but did not say how much the hotel was sold.

"This hotel is not your run-of-the-mill hotels. It is a very big one largely used by expatriates and oil industry employees. Because of the huge embarrassment an EFCC arrest could cause his reputation, the man has decided to let the hotel go, believing that he who fights and runs away would live to fight another day. I am not sure how much he sold it, but the buyer could not have paid the actual worth of the property", the source told our reporter.

Also, one of the debtors of Oceanic Bank and chairman of the Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, paid a whopping sum of N3.1 billion to the bank on Thursday.
Confirming the payment on Friday, acting Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Mr Joseph Ajewole, said the bank has recorded giant strides in debt recovery.
He said: "A lot of the delinquent debtors have reached us. Many have paid substantial amounts while others have come forward to discuss with us about their plans to repay."

As the seven-day ultimatum given to the debtors of the five troubled banks draws near, some of them have started selling their assets to recover the money to pay up before the ultimatum expires. It was not clear on Friday how the debtors raised the funds to offset the debts, but Sunday Sun learnt that most of them are selling their choice property in choice locations in Abuja and Lagos to enable them beat the Wednesday deadline by the EFCC for them to pay up.

So far, about N18 billion has been recovered from debtors of the five distressed banks, whose management and managing directors were sacked by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, penultimate Friday.
Sunday Sun gathered at the weekend that Intercontinental Bank Plc has so far recovered N4.8 billion while Afribank Plc has recovered N3 billion. Others are Oceanic Bank Plc N4.5 billion and Union Bank about N6 billion.

Meanwhile, Mr. Femi Babafemi, the anti-corruption agency’s spokesman, told Sunday Sun that John Maha had been playing hide-and-seek with the agency for six days before the long arms of EFCC reeled him in at the weekend.
"The EFCC had been on his trail since Monday, but each time we got closer he changed location. We decided to use other operational tactics to lure him out of his nest to a place where our operatives were waiting for him."

Babafemi also disclosed that both Maha and Opeodu had been fingered in further allegations of book cooking, setting up fake companies to process out loans that are not repaid.
With few days to the EFCC deadline for bank debtors to pay what they owed the banks or go to jail, highly placed sources at the Commission told Sunday Sun that at the expiration of the deadline, every defaulter would become the guest of EFCC.

"We are prepared for the task ahead and nobody should delude himself that he or she is too big to be arrested by the EFCC. The Chairman has given express instruction that all and anybody who does not do the honourable thing by Tuesday should be brought in. We have enough space for all of them.
"Some of those already arrested will be arraigned and taken to prison to make room for new ‘intakes’, the source assured.

Sunday Sun also learnt that bank CEOs that have so far refused to show up at EFCC risked being declared wanted. "It is a shame really that these people Nigeria once trusted with their hard-earned money are unwilling to submit themselves to the law. After receiving awards from everywhere, they are now on the run. We know what to do and it is in their interest to submit to EFCC instead of waiting until after they are become fugitives from the law. We are closing in on them and whether they stay in Nigeria or escape abroad, we believe it would really be a shame if a former bank chief executive’s face and photo is displayed as one of the ‘wanted men’ in the same newspapers and television screens that once carried their awards", our source said.
The EFCC source went on to say that one of the CEOs on the run would most likely surrender as her pastor and church are seriously persuading her to save herself and the church the embarrassment of being declared wanted.

"The CEO in question is a member of a big Pentecostal church and her quite respectable General Overseer and elders are persuading her to come out of hiding.
The anti-graft agency decided to take the tough stance because, according to it, there is urgency in salvaging the banking industry from economic strangulation orchestrated by the heavy debt burdens on the banks.
The debtors, who include the who-is-who in business and political circles in Nigeria, are together owing the five distressed banks about N747 billion.

The EFCC, according to its chairman, Mrs Farida Waziri, will enforce Section 42 of the Establishment Act 2004, which states that "any offence committed or proceedings instituted before the commencement of this Act under the provisions of the(a) miscellaneous Offences Act (b) the Banks and Other Financial institutions Act 1991 as amended; (c) Failed Banks ( Recovery of Debts) and Financial Malpractices in Banks Act, as amended (d) the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act (e), the Money Laundry Act or any other law or regulation relating to Economic and Financial Crimes, shall as the case may be, required to be enforced or continued to be enforced by the commission."
The CBN had, on Thursday, published the list of debtors (both institutions and individuals) who secured the loans worth over N747 billion from the five banks. It included names such as Alhaji Musa Bashir, Bashir Adamu, Abba Dasuki, Mr Jimoh Ibrahim, Chudi Ajaegbu and Chiamaka Ajaegbu; Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola and a host of others.

Omotola re-brands, focuses on humanitarian work

Nollywood diva and mother of four, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, popularly known as Omosexy, has found a new calling. Okay, maybe not entirely new, Omosexy is redirecting her energy to one of her age-long passion, Children. Don’t even think she is trying to pop more babies. No, she is focusing more on her humanitarian works with children. Omotola who was recently honoured with African Female Entrepreneur award in United States, we discovered, is already mapping out strategies to reach out to more children. The actress, who in time past, has been involved in charity works that have to do with youths and children will be embarking on another tour soon to help save the less-catered for children of Africa. It would be recalled that her tour of Uganda some years ago brought tears of joy to many in that part of the country. And she was recently in Ondo State, her state of origin where she delivered motivational message to excited and star-stricken secondary school students. Speaking on the latest development, Omosexy said humanitarian work has always been part of her life. “This is not new. It is just that I giving it more time. I’ve always loved children and youths because they are the future we talk about. If we genuinely care about the future, we will love the children and youths. If we want better nation, we should raise better children and youths. This is my own way of contributing to the future.” On the African Female Entrepreneur Award she got recently from America, the mother of four says it only places more responsibility on her. “I’ve always been an entrepreneur with my craft. Not many people consider actresses as entrepreneurs; some of us are actually different. We’ve added entrepreneurial drive to our talent. I sit upon a company (Redhot Concept) and have members of staff that I have to pay at the end of every month. The award is recognition of another side of me.” In a way that confirms the universal appeal of the Omotola brand, two ambassadors were present at the presentation of the award to her and they later organized a dinner in her honour. The Liberian ambassador, Dr Dawn Cooper Barnes and his wife, wife of Sierra Leonean ambassador to United States of America, Mrs. Musu Stevens who represented her husband were present at the presentation. The choice of Omotola, according to Ms Joi Onyeukwu, is determined by her inspirational appeal to other young African woman.

African China, fastest selling reggae artist

African China’s fourth album the Return of the Legend has been described as the fastest selling album in Nigeria. This declaration comes from the authorities of CN Media, the marketing company that is in charge of China’s fourth album.

China, whose last album, London Fever performed below expectations was full of smiles when informed of the declaration made by his marketing company. “Whao, this is really amazing! That my marketer can come out to say this about my album, that means more money in my pocket”.

The 12-track reggae album had the production touch of four different producers L Johnny, Shariff P.Black and Emac the beat maker. Although none of the tracks showed the typical live recording that great reggae legends are known for, the producers still pulled together beats that gave the album a cross over appeal, blending funky reggae beats with contemporary dance hall and R&B tunes.

On the lyrics and vocals in the album, China brought to bear his usual high notes and thought-provoking lyrics that bother on political and real life issues. Collaboration with 2Face Idibia on the track Loving you everyday brought a great blend of R&B into the album.

While speaking to journalists in Lagos, China took time to react to a single that seams to be tearing two reggae acts in Nigeria apart. I want finish Timaya an abusive track released by Nico Gravity and targeted at another act, Timaya. “Look, Timaya to me is not a reggae artist, he is a Makosa act. The truth is this, his music is not reggae and his life style does not reflect the principles of reggae artists because true reggae acts do not brag over material things.” African China’s current album is his fourth, though the highest point of his career remains his Mr. President album that brought him fame and fortune, a situation his present marketer believes will change if the present album continues to sell.

Female fan once held me hostage for turning down her sexual advances – Slam, hip-hop/R n B singer

Returnee crooner, Slam, of the Ibu Chineke fame, is not only back in the nation’s music landscape, but also striving to re-launch his career. After spending close to four years in the United Kingdom, in pursuit of a master’s degree in Marketing, he’s now back with so much to offer the industry, which he also admitted was not this big when he left.

Brimming with new ideas, Slam, who’s currently promoting his third and newest album, entitled, Simply Slam, told Blockbuster, why he ‘fled’ the industry, reasons for coming back, challenges, his love life and many more.

Your performance of the song, African Child, at the recent premiere of Emem Isong’s movie, Edikan, was wonderful. What inspired it?
Thanks, but the truth is that I always get very nervous whenever I’m going on stage to perform. But above all, I like doing spectacular things on stage in order to lure and wow the crowd and I think that was what happened. I guess it was God, who made my performance fantastic. The track, African Child, was the original sound track for the movie, Edikan. I wrote it for Emem Isong and her crew.

For almost four years, you disappeared from the music industry. What happened and where have you been?
To my teeming fans, I want to sincerely apologize, I am very sorry about that. I travelled to London to complete my master’s degree programme in Marketing at the North-West University, Strafford College. In fact, I was away for three years plus. While, I was away, I must confess that I missed my music and fans. However, as at the time I left, the music industry was not as big as it is today. I’m happy to be around and alive to be experiencing all these good things. Our songs are being played everywhere and Nigerians now love our songs. I was not completely out of the industry in London, because I was playing at gigs within and outside London, even in Holland.

When did you return and what brought you back home?
I came back after completing my studies and again to partake fully in the Nigerian music industry, which has grown so big. I envisaged this industry being this big a long time ago. I believe that for you to get somewhere, there have to be some stepping-stones as well as some processes and challenges. I did some vocal training in the UK, and also attended a dance school, to enhance my dancing skills.
I’m yet to display the skills acquired in that dance school in any of my videos.

We would like to know more about your sojourn in the music industry prior to your leaving for the UK?
Before leaving for the UK, I released two albums with Kennis Music. First was Approved. It had the hit track, Ibu Chimeke. Then, the second was Dreaming About You. They were released in 2002 and 2003, respectively; I eventually left Kennis Music in 2005, because we signed a three-year, two-album contract.

Why did you leave Kennis Music?
Nothing personal. I left after my contract with them expired. I would also give it to them for a lot of positive things in the music industry. God used them to bring me to limelight.
In fact, they brought respect and fortune into Hip-hop and made it what it is today. I respect them for that. However, that does not make them perfect.

Now that you’re fully back, do you still want to work with Kennis Music?
I wouldn’t mind working with Kennis Music. They are still there and waxing stronger. I’m still open to discussions and willing to partner willing collaborators.

Your third effort, Simply Slam, is out and making waves, when was it dropped?
Simply Slam was dropped on SCHUD Records, jointly owned by my brother, his wife and I, recently. It is an 18-tracker with some of the videos out. It’s a full-fledged hip-hop and R n B album. It’s simply Slam, because in the album, you’d see every part of me. Above all, I’m just an artiste always willing to entertain my fans. The videos of Edon Tey and Check it Out, are already making waves on air. I recently released the video of Buku-Buku, and the reception has been massive. It’s a cultural music video and very dramatic too. More videos are still on the way.

Now that you’re fully back, what concerted efforts are you making to re-launch your career into the mainstream?
I’m back and trying my best. But don’t also forget the fact that there are many people in the game. I’ll keep trying and possibly re-double my efforts, like 10 times over. As an artiste, you’re faced with several challenges, meaning I’ll keep pushing and learning the trade.

What influenced your going into music?
Though I started singing at a very tender age. Indian movies also influenced me a lot then. I use to sing the songs in Indian movies then a lot. In fact, I was the best dancer in my secondary school, then in Taraba State. But professionally, I started in 2002, when I released my first album.

We would like to know your real name and background?
I’m Udoka Oguamanam, better known as Slam. I’m from Nwangele LGA of Imo State, but grew up in Lagos with my parents. We are from a family of seven, and also the fifth child, just five boys and two girls. For my first degree, I read Petroleum Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).

As a Petroleum Engineer, what are you still doing in the music Industry?
The passion for entertainment lured me in. Besides, music is my dream; it’s my passion and what I love to do and it makes me happy too.

Since you’re very much single, how are you coping with ladies?
I’m single with a fiancée. I do have a fiancée, but she doesn’t like the whole media and paparazzi thing.

How is she coping with your life as a musician?
She knows where I come from. I knew her even before I came into the industry. She is from a very responsible family.

How long have you guys been dating?
We have been dating for quite a while now.

Is marriage on the cards?
I am hoping so, but for her I don’t know

Are you thinking of marriage this year?
I am hoping that by next year, I should be getting married, God willing. It is good to have some form of responsibilities. And it makes you a better person.

You have been away for four years. What do you think has really changed most, in the industry?
There are a lot of changes. Most of the companies are using music to promote and advertise their products. Currently, people are also branding artistes. And I want to be part of all these so that I will be able to showcase myself. The only problem with the industry right now is that there are so many mediocrities. Some songs should be criticized before they go on air.

What makes you unique?
It is always good for an artiste to be relevant. Here I am talking about the African Child. Once an artiste is relevant, it is easy to find your place every time. That is why I am still relevant till now. I think that my voice and smile also add to the things that stand me out.

How did you get the name Slam?
I get carried away whenever I am singing. People listening to me get carried away too. So, when I am done, they say, whao! That was Slamming.

Generally, what do you preach in your songs?
For me, it is love. I like to talk about love in so many different ways. I do inspirational songs as well as those on lives. I am preaching inspiration and encouragement in all my songs.

Now that you are fully back, what should your fans expect from a rejuvenated Slam?
There are a lot coming up now. I am planning a tour round the country to promote my album. Basically, they should expect more videos, and good music. It is the same old Slam. I will also be dropping two new singles soon.

What is the craziest thing a lady has ever done to you as an artiste?
They are so many. The one that struck me was that of a lady holding my shirt and saying that I am a small boy. She said that she wanted me and I was misbehaving. She said she had been on my case for a while and I never gave in. I don’t want to mention her name.

Music wise, do you think our artistes are measuring up with their counterparts abroad?
I can’t blame our artistes. They are measuring up to the amount of resources available to them. But if I have to juxtapose here and what is going on over there, I would say that we’re joking. An artiste here will be the one to compose, direct and send his works out. It is tiring and there won’t be time for creativity. The system is not working properly yet.

How can this be corrected?
Honestly, I don’t know. I would suggest that there should a committee that listens to songs before they are churned out. This might sound funny, but we are evolving, and will get there some day.

I HATE MY BUTTOCKS.........UCHE OGBODO

For every woman, there is usually that part of the body she likes most, the part of your body you can easily flaunt with shoulders high. That part people compliment you about. Anita Joseph says she has beautiful eyes Zizi Cardow, a fashion designer says hers are her legs and that is why she sticks to short dresses or minis. For Data Okorodudu, also a fashion designer her arms are that best part. “I have well tanned arms.” Little wonder she wears tubes and strapless. For Ini Edo Ehiagwina, it is her chest where she has hairs which she usually flaunts. There are also some parts of you, you would wish to change or adjust were it possible. Rosemary Ikwuegbu, a business woman said the first thing she would ask from God is to add to her boobs: “They are too small. I want more, honestly more than these buds on my chest.” Ikwuegbu is not alone, Uche Ogbodo, Nollywood's sultry actress doesn’t like her Bakassi (buttocks) one bit. She starts by analyzing those parts she likes: “I have beautiful eyes. I like my boobs too but my ass (buttocks), I dislike because they are too big.

സെക്സ് ഓണ്‍ OKADA

I know what’s going through your mind. Yes, whether it is really possible to have sex on motorbike. Well, anything is possible as long as... we have perverted men in this country.

Perhaps I better explain, but before I do, let me ask you, if it is possible, for a male and female passengers, who are riding on a commercial bike, be able to have sex on motion? You may probably not agreed that is possible, but I tell you that there men who stupidly think it’s possible.

Let me quickly tell you my discovery. It was a hectic day as usual. After beating the dreadful traffic along the Lagos/ Abeokuta express road, I got to Egbeda bus stop. I was in hurry. The time was almost 10pm. I was due to take an injection that day. I was booked for a week and the doctor had sterly warned me not to miss any day, or I may have to start all over again. I didn’t want to miss any.

I couldn’t bear to have my buttocks assaulted again by those painful needles. When I arrived Egbeda, there was a hell of traffic jam to Ikotun. I heaved a frustrated sign. I knew I just have to take motorbike. But motorbike at Egbeda is very expensive. I have spent too much on my medical test and hospital bills. I needed to manage. I approached the first Okada guy. Before I could finished asking him where how much to council, a startling handsome guy, in a clean suit and shining black shoes appeared by my side. He was a sight for sore eyes. He was good looking and he knew it by the way he smiled. He had the right height and well space shoulders. Shoulders actually seems to be begging a lady to “ come on baby, lean on me.” whoever sewed his suit and trouser, could very well out Calvin klein or any designer to shame.

It seemed he was poured into it. I noticed all these but honestly, I wasn’t impressed. It takes more than I handsome face to get me wet or interested. I gave him a clinical observation. He asked the Okada man if he would carry two passengers. I’m not naturally, a fool, I knew with two passengers, the money would be halved between us. And it was exactly as I thought. Initially, the bike guy had asked me to pay N300, but with the arrival of the handsome dude, I split it to 50-50. He was heading to Isheri, and I was going farther. I sat behind the okada man, while Mr. Handsome sat behind me.

We had not gone far, when I felt the unmistakably throb of his manhood against my aging buttocks! Jeez! Some men are insane! How on earth can a guy get an erection when he doesn’t even know me? I tried to pretend I didn’t know what he was doing but I was danm uncomfortable. He kept “shocking” me, so to say! Every time Mr. Okada man climbed over a bump or entered pot hole, it would an opportunity for him to shook me. I finally lost my cool when he actually had the effrontery to attempt to touch my boobs. I snapped my neck and turned to look into his eyes. It was dark, I couldn’t see his face. But I asked him any in snarling voice, I hoped. “ what the hell are to trying to do?”

and the idiot replied in quavery voice, “ I just want to touch your hands.” see me, see trouble O! Shei me and him na Romeo and Juliet? Which one be hold my hand?

Before I could give him a piece of my mind, he quickly told the Okada man that he was alighting. When he climbed down, he looked at me and apologized. I swear, that man was simply mad! But one thing is for sure, no more sharing of Okada seat with any male. If I must because I am still poor struggling woman and money is scarce, then I must sit behind the guy and not the other way round. What was he thinking anyway? To screw me on a motorbike, with the rider speeding along the highway? Men!

The next day, I was going for my last injection and arrived at council bus stop. At council, there rule is two per motorbike, if you don’t like it, you might jolly well go and take a swim in the lagoon! I made sure the male passenger boarded before me. When he got down, the okada regalled me with different incidences of men who used to “shook” women passengers with their electric pole on motorbikes. He said he recollected the day, a lady ordered to stop, she climbed down from the bike and said she was no longer going except the male passenger gets down. She insulted him and finally stoned him. She didn’t waste time in explaining to Lagos lookers who had gathered that the man had a mischievous snake head buried in his trouser. He told me so many incidences that made me blush. Haba! Can some men be so shameless?

I know that some men have probably of controlling their irate manhood. Those are the sort of men, who had pour forth their holy water immediately their manhood touches the bakassi of a lady. Men who can not control their manhood. These are also men that can rape at any given time. They are controlled by their hormones.

No, tell me, what really can a guy do on a motorbike, with a lady, who is a total stranger? Perhaps I’m missing something here. Come to think of it, perhaps there are girls who had simply given in to such rubbish at the feel of the stiffened rock rubbing their buttocks. Perhaps if she doesn’t complain, the next thing would be conversation and exchange of addresses. And before you know it, they had both started browing each other’s web sites. It’s possible! If we have loose men, I’m sure we have loose women too. It takes a mad man, to tango with a mad lady. I have seen cases where men release all over ladies in a moving molue. I have seen a case where a lady begged a guy to lap her because it was rush hour and buses were not particularly many. Before she got to her bus stop, our brother had poured on her buttocks. When she got up, she was so wet, you had think she had pee in panties. She of course made sure everyone knew.

If you don’t want strange men to pawn and shook your darling with their yeye and stupid manhood, best buy her a car. But if you can’t meet up with a car, then give her enough money to pay a fare that would cover for two passengers. As for me, I know I would not be able to buy a car anyway. Definitely not on a journalist salary that I’m receiving. Short of robbing a bank, the lest I can do, is to beg any male passenger, to please take sit at the front, while I manned the back.

The life of a lady is not an easy one. Sometimes, the stupid pervert would be shook a babe with his kini and the okada rider, for reasons we all know, would be stretching his back, to tap current from her boobs. Tell me, sawiched between such two devils, short of jumping off, what would a babe do? When there were talks of banning okada riders from carrying two passengers, some people pitied for them, thinking about the money they would lose.

Now, I seriously think it is important to revisit that idea, before some crazy men start raping women on motorbikes under the glare of people. I have come to realize one thing, some guys’ one eyed snakes have no respect for anybody, not even their owners! The best thing is to start from home, teaching them etiquette on how to behave in public and with a total female stranger. Men need to also start to teach their screw drivers to be able to identify and differentiate their babes, from a total female stranger. The menace of misbehaving manhood, begins from a complete lack of home training. Good day all!......send your comments
